Restore Your Tooth Without Forgetting How Much Tooth You Still Have
- When a tooth is damaged, our first question isn't automatically: “Does this tooth need a crown?” We also ask:
- “How much healthy tooth can we preserve?”
- That's why we use CEREC® digital dentistry to create ceramic restorations right in our office. CEREC technology can be used to digitally design and manufacture crowns, inlays, and onlays, allowing many restorations to be completed in a single visit.
Filling, Inlay, Onlay or Crown?
Think of restorative dentistry as a spectrum.
- Filling For smaller areas of damaged tooth structure.
- Inlay A custom ceramic restoration that fits within the chewing surface of the tooth.
- Onlay A custom ceramic restoration that replaces a larger portion of the tooth while allowing us to preserve healthy areas that may not need to be covered.
- Crown When more of the tooth needs support, a crown covers and protects the remaining tooth structure.
Why We Love Inlays & Onlays
Sometimes a filling isn’t enough—but a full crown may be more treatment than the tooth needs.
In those situations, a ceramic inlay or onlay can give us another option.
Restore what is damaged. Preserve what is healthy.
That is one of the reasons CEREC fits so naturally into our restorative philosophy.
How CEREC Works
Your tooth is digitally scanned.
We design your restoration using digital technology, then mill the ceramic restoration in our
office. CEREC supports in-office production of crowns, inlays, and onlays using validated
restorative materials.
For many appropriate cases, the final restoration can be completed during the same
appointment.
The Natural Focus Difference
Technology doesn’t determine the treatment.
The tooth does. Our goal is to select the restoration that provides the support your tooth needs while preserving
as much healthy natural tooth structure as reasonably possible.
